Markyate is located in the county of Hertfordshire and was once a major coaching stop on the highway from London to Birmingham. As a location, Markyate is very well situated being close to Harpenden, St Albans, and Hemel Hempstead. The village is on the A5, the old Roman Road, north of junction 9 on the M1.
