Tufnell Park possesses a great community feel as well as a range of stunning properties. Famous local residents include; two generations of the Kinnock family, British Labour Party politicians; actors Damian Lewis, Helen McCrory, and Bill Nighy; and the supermodel Kristen McMenamy.

This North London suburb has attractive Victorian houses, many of them so large that they have been converted into spacious flats and maisonettes.

Increasingly well-heeled and with a thriving shopping and café scene around Tufnell Park Tube station, it’s a place where families still favour state primary and comprehensive schools.

Schools

School_2

Tufnell Park has three state primary schools that are judged to be “outstanding” by the Government’s education watchdog Ofsted: Eleanor Palmer in Lupton Street; Yerbury in Foxham Road and Torriano Juniors (ages seven to 11) in Torriano Avenue. According to Paul Mould, the competition to get into Yerbury is as tough as for Eleanor Palmer with houses nearby fetching a premium and often going to sealed bids. Tufnell Park in Dalmeny Road, set in a beautiful garden, and Kentish Town CofE in Islip Street are both judged to be “good”.

The best-regarded local state comprehensive is The Camden School for Girls (ages 11 to 18) in Sandall Road, Kentish Town; it is judged to be “outstanding”. The following comprehensives are judged to be “good”: Holloway (co-ed, ages 11 to 16) in Hilldrop Road; Parliament Hill (girls, ages 11 to 18); La Sainte Union RC (girls, ages 11 to 18); and William Ellis (boys, ages 11 to 18), all three in Highgate Road; Mount Carmel RC (girls, ages 11 to 16) in Holland Walk off Duncombe Road; Haverstock (co-ed, ages 11to 18) in Haverstock Hill, where the Miliband brothers were pupils. Acland Burghley (co-ed, ages 11 to 18) in Burghley Road is the most local comprehensive; it is recovering from a rocky patch and has just appointed a new head. There is a joint sixth form consortium; LaSWAP with four schools – La Sainte Union, William Ellis, Acland Burghley and Parliament Hill - sharing facilities and courses. College Francais Bilingue de Londres (co-ed, ages five to 15) in Holmes Road is a bi-lingual school.

There are many private schools in nearby Hampstead, Highgate and Belsize Park.
