Once a medieval mill town, Chipping is now a pretty little village of stone-built cottages set amongst the beauty of the Forest of Bowland. As peaceful and serene as it may be, Chipping is also a hub of creativity with cheesemakers, crafters and woodworkers all based in the village.

EATING & DRINKING

With a host of world-renowned food producers in the local vicinity, some of the Ribble Valley's best fare can be found in the eateries around Chipping. Famed as a wedding venue and hotel, Gibbon Bridge's on-site bakery and garden kitchen provide its chefs with many of the ingredients on the restaurant's menu. With views over the fells, the conservatory and garden terrace are the ideal spots to sample such delights.

The gorgeous cobbled streets of Chipping village centre are dotted with traditional coaching inns, such as The Sun Inn and The Tillotson's Arms, and you'll also find a small selection of perfectly formed cafes.

SPORTS & LEISURE

Nestled in the heart of the Forest of Bowland, most of the leisure activities in the Chipping area embrace the great outdoors. Parlick and Fairsnape Hills and Beacon and Longridge Fells form the backdrops for energetic walks and high-impact cycling, whilst Chipping Pony Club offers meet-ups and events for equine enthusiasts of all ages. Perhaps the most exciting of Chipping's clubs however is the Bowland Forest Gliding Club, which gives you the opportunity to soar over this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Chipping is synonymous with its yearly Steam Fair, featuring a display of steam engines, vintage vehicles, a funfair, family entertainment, stalls and live music. Organised by a team of volunteers to support local charities, it's a community event that brings the whole village together.

Chipping is also known for Bowland Wild Boar Park and Leagram Organic Dairy, owned by cheesemaker Bob Kitching who invites members of the public to come and see how Leagram's traditional cheese is made.

There are plenty of architectural and historic gems in the area too, including Lancashire's oldest ancestral home, Browsolme Hall, which offers tours of the house and gardens, and a quaint little tea room.

EDUCATION

Two village primary schools can be found in Chipping's centre; Brabin's Endowed and St Mary's RC. The nearby towns of Clitheroe and Longridge offer both state and independent education with some options including Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and Longridge High School. The UK's leading Catholic boarding and day school for 3-18 years olds, Stonyhurst College is just 20 minutes’ drive away from Chipping centre.
