Avebury is one of Wiltshire's most historic and picturesque villages and is surrounded by the rolling hills of the Marlborough Downs and is indeed just under 7 miles from Marlborough. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Neolithic stone circle rivals nearby Stonehenge, but in Avebury you can walk among the stones and even touch them - but watch out for the Devil Stone! Much of the surrounding landscape and Avebury Manor is cared for by the National Trust, and the same hands on approach is permitted at the Manor, where you can sit down and read a book, even lie on a bed if you fancy it! Afterwards you can retreat to the National Trust cafe for the ubiquitous tea and cake.

Highlights and Attractions

Modern Avebury fulfills its community's needs and there is a pub - The Red Lion, a preschool and primary school, a community owned village shop, a beautiful Anglo-Saxon church and a flourishing cricket club. Hardly surprising that in 2022 The Telegraph declared Avebury Wiltshire's most desirable village!

Properties in the village range from picturesque thatched cottages to Georgian Town Houses, and villagers often comment on the strong community feel, saying it is a very easy community to live in.
