Kirkby Lonsdale Area Guide

Set between the borders of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the popular market town of Kirkby Lonsdale offers a mix of historic buildings and cobbled streets. The independent high street is awash with quality shops, cafes, restaurants and bars and the town makes a great base for exploring not only the National Parks but also the lush surrounding countryside that extends to the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Attractions

The quaint high street of Kirkby Lonsdale is famed for its choice of quality independent shops and eateries, having previously been runner up for the Great British High Street Awards.

Devil’s Bridge is a historic 12^th/ 13^th century triple arched bridge that runs across the River Lune at the edge of Kirkby Lonsdale. It is a popular spot for motorcyclists and families alike with some great spots for to enjoy a picnic, ice cream and swim in the waters.

The town offers a full range of amenities to include a supermarket, doctors, dentist and post office.

Education

For those of primary age there is the St Mary’s Primary School and the Casterton Sedbergh Prep School just a couple of miles away. For those of secondary, the Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale is a popular choice for those in the local area with a great reputation. For private education at secondary age, there is also a choice of Sedbergh School, 20 minutes away and Giggleswick 30 minutes away.

Commuting

M6 access is approximately a 10 minute drive away.

Kirkby Lonsdale generally brings a higher price tag than the surrounding areas, starting from around £250,000 for apartments and ranging up to £1m + for a detached property which are few and far between in this highly sought after location.

Surrounding Villages

Casterton is home to the former school of the Bronte sisters which is now the Sedbergh Casterton prep school, Casterton village is surrounded by the lush countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is a great option for those wanting to be away from the town whilst still being close to a shop.

Leck is also a great option, a rural hamlet that offers some truly beautiful properties. It benefits from easy access to the M6, 5 minutes away, and into Kirkby Lonsdale.

Cowan Bridge is situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park close to Ingleborough, It is home to some great family homes and again is conveniently access to the A65.
