South Turton Area Guide

The area of South Turton lies north east of central Bolton on the southern edge of the West Pennine Moors and includes the suburbs of Eagley, Dunscar, Egerton, Bromley Cross, Bradshaw, and Harwood.

Eagley Brook runs through the suburb of Eagley and runs by Eagley Mills. Once a complex of cotton mills, Eagley Mills was converted to a block of contemporary 1, 2, and 3 bed apartments which overlook the river and are situated near a small, green valley which eventually brings you to Dunscar. North of Dunscar is the small village-like suburb of Egerton. Several parts of Egerton are protected conservation areas, and the suburb is mostly residential with a lovely selection of pubs, independent restaurants, cafes and bistros.

Bromley Cross is in the centre of the South Turton suburbs, and like Egerton is home to a variety of independent restaurants, cafes and bistros. In the northern area of Bromley Cross is Last Drop Village - a collection of old farmhouses and farm buildings which were restored and converted in the 1960s to create a pub and restaurant, craft shops, hotel, gym and spa, and conference centre. The area of South Turton is also home to Bromley Cross railway station which is on the Ribble Valley Line, providing quick access into Bolton town centre and neighbouring Manchester. Jumbles Country Park is in Bromley Cross, which is a beautiful reservoir and green space for Sunday strolls with the family. In a 2011 survey it was noted that the area of Bromley Cross was rated the fifth best place in the UK to raise a family, considering the rates of crime, schooling, amenities, and good quality homes.

Bradshaw is a small residential area within South Turton. It is positioned between Bromley Cross and Harwood. On Friday and Saturday evenings you will find The Crofter’s bar bustling with locals. And bordering the neighbouring town of Bury in the north-eastern part of Bolton is Harwood – a hilly suburb with a range of amenities including an array of pubs and eatieries and a large supermarket.
