Widcombe is a thriving community with excellent facilities and services. On the south-eastern fringes of Bath city centre, the area is only a few minutes’ walk over ‘Halfpenny Bridge’ (Built in 1877 and restored in 2013) across the River Avon from the rear of the railway station. You can also approach from the centre of Bath along the riverside path from Argylle St or North Parade Bridge.

The White Hart has superb food, and there are two other decent pubs, the Ring O’ Bells and the Ram. There is a Co-op, Florist’s, GP and Pharmacy, Widcombe Deli, coffee shops, Aga shop, Curtain Exchange, Dentist and Launderette. The Prior Park Garden Centre has a brilliant farm shop and café and an amazing selection of plants. The Widcombe Social Centre organises lots of community events: comedy and musical nights. The schools here are excellent, Widcombe Primary School has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, and Prior Park and the Paragon are nearby.

The countryside is very accessible from here with the River and Canal on the doorstep, ideal for stand-up paddle boarding and running or walking along the Canal towards Bradford on Avon. Prior Park National Trust gardens are in Widcombe and the Skyline walk with its incredible views over Georgian Bath is brilliant, with Rainbow Woods at the top of Widcombe Hill.

Widcombe is well known for its artistic vibe. Every year the WA holds an Art Trail, where local artists and friends display their work in their homes and studios and local shops, pubs and restaurants. A Craft Fair is also held every November where potters, jewellers and textile artists present their own work, and you can buy Christmas gifts direct from the makers.
