A beloved village of both Beatrix Potter and Williams Wordsworth, Hawkshead is a quaint village made up of unique historic houses, cobbled streets, archways and squares. So much is the beauty of this village respected, that many of the buildings are owned by the National Trust and cars are banned from the centre meaning visitors can only access by foot from the car park on the outskirts of the village. There is a lovely arrange of quirky inns, guest houses, cafes and shops to enjoy.

Hill Top at Nearby Sawrey – a much-beloved farmhouse of Beatrix Potter, the home that inspired many of her famous characters and stories.

Access to a great many of the Lake Districts finest walks with striking views including the Tarn Hows, Latterbarrow and Claife Heights.

The Old Grammar School once attended by Williams Wordsworth himself, the building has now been preserved as a museum.

Grizedale Forest located just 3 miles away, is a great spot for a family day out!

There is a local primary school in Hawkshead and for those of secondary age, there is the Lake School and the private Windermere School located within driving distance.

Commuting

Hawkshead is located just 5 miles from Ambleside town and the A591 that leads to the M6. It is also 9 miles to Windermere where you can access the train station. There is also the Windermere Ferry that connects the eastern and western shores of Lake Windermere, a regular commute for cars and foot passengers that takes approximately 10 minutes.
